Grace, that is a really good question! As of October of last year, the library had 10,408 items cataloged! This includes movies, books on tape and CD, and things like that so it's not just books. I will have to do a new report again this year and see how much we've grown with all of the new books that we got last year!

Oh my goodness, do I have a lot of books! Everywhere I look I see books whether they are kids books, adult books, fiction and nonfiction. Now that I work in the library, I also have a lot of books that I check out from there to read so that I can suggest them to students! Thanks for your question, Alexia.

Sailor, it's closer than I thought! When I looked at my report from last year it said that there were 3713 nonfiction books and 4180 fiction books. This number has changed because of all the new books but I would see that to still be about right! (This doesn't include the Spanish books though)

Gabriel, this is a tough question. When a person likes to read as much as I do, my favorite book always changes! So I will answer it like this now, (but then it will most likely change!): My favorite book when I was in 5th grade was the Trixie Belden series because she was a girl who solved mysteries with her best friend. I loved books in a series because the story didn't stop with just one!

How many race car books do you have in the library?

9/2/2013 07:28:23 am
Hi David, thanks for your question. In order to answer this, I had to go to the online library catalog. I typed in "race cars" and selected Keyword then a search of 27 items came up. When looking those over, I saw that some of the books weren't really race cars (like the Lowrider books) so when I totaled them up, our library has 25 books including one about how to draw race cars!

Hi Kevin. My all-time favorite book is "The Boxcar Children" because it got me interested in reading chapter books. It's a story about a family of kids who lost their parents and then lived in an old train car (boxcar) and learned how to take care of each other. Can you imagine living with your brothers or sisters in an old boxcar? I couldn't wait to read each book and see what happened next! We have a lot of these books in our library and even though they were written before I was even born, they are still good stories for kids today!

Hi Paola. This is a hard question to answer because the library catalog does not separate out chapter books from picture books. There are also chapter books in the nonfiction section. But if I had to guess I would say that we had about the same number of chapter books that we do picture books or maybe even a little bit more.

9/2/2013 07:39:50 am
Christopher, that is a good question! A lot of it depends on how well the Book Fair goes in October and February! If we sell a lot of books, we can use that money towards new books for the library! The library also receives donations of money that help to purchase new books as well as supplies and equipment for the library. Last year was a great year, so I was able to purchase a lot of new books thanks to students and parents!

Mylei, I looked into it and you have to be 13 to sign up for a Voki account. So if it's ok with your parents, you would have to change your birth year for the account to work. Otherwise, I am also looking into how much it would cost to purchase Voki for the classroom and you wouldn't have to have your own account. OR, you can just click "Create" and have fun making Vokis and just know that you can't save them when you're done on the computer. Hope that helps!!

I change my answer every time because I have so many books that I love. My answer this time is "Ashfall" by Mike Mullin. You should read this book when you are in high school. It is a science fiction book about the volcano at Yellowstone erupting and creating all sorts of problems for the USA, including a boy in Iowa (he's the main character). While it's not a kid's book, I really liked it because it made me think, it made me wonder what would happen if that came true, and I got to meet the author and get his autograph when he came to West Liberty! There are two books in this series and another one is coming out next Spring.
